URI Jazz

In 2017, I started as a Lecturer of Jazz Studies at the University of Rhode Island. As of September of 2020, I am now an Assistant Professor and the Director of Jazz Studies. This program is budding into something amazing! We have an amazing student base with undergraduate and graduate programs. We have one big band which is open to auditions from all students, three traditional jazz combos, a jazz guitar ensemble, and a latin jazz ensemble. Our amazing faculty of Jay Azzolina, Mark Berney, John McKenna, Dave Zinno, and Zaccai Curtis take time to teach the students how to master the music! Scroll down for more information on some of the ensembles and view some of my favorite concerts the groups have performed!

URI Big Band

Big Band

The URI Big Band is a 20-piece band that plays music from all eras of jazz. We have done concerts ranging from early traditional jazz to '70s funk music to the modern age. We also feature compositions from myself, the faculty, and even the students. This ensemble is a mix of undergraduate and graduate students and some of the students are non-music majors.

URI Jazz Combo

Jazz Combos

The URI Jazz Combos are small ensembles that have a mix of undergraduate and graduate students. These ensembles are auditioned and have three traditional combos, a jazz guitar ensemble, and a latin jazz ensemble. The music performed ranges from all eras featuring many different composers and also original tunes composed by the students.
